James McNeill Whistler
American: 1834–1903
A dancing woman in a pink robe 1888/95
Watercolour and gouache
The Whistler Estate, presented by Rosalind Birnie Philip, 1935

In this watercolour, which may have been left unfinished, Whistler uses pink and white gouache and the technique of scumbling over the delicate drawing to build up the volume and mass of the figure, reinforcing the effect of her slightly exaggerated pose. GLAHA 46134
