For a brief period during his honeymoon tour of Northern France in the late summer of 1888, Whistler painted in watercolour on fine fabric – either linen or cotton – purchasing his materials from the firm of E. Mary & Fils in Paris. Here, he allows the light colour and the woven texture of the cloth to show through, creating a network of fine dots. GLAHA 46132
